IPL Cricket Arrives in South Africa
Published: 18/04/2009
The Indian Premier League brings a touch of Bollywood to South Africa as
this cricket tournament kicks off in Cape Town on 18 April 2009. The opening
game will be played in Cape Town on Saturday with a further 58 games in
locations around the country. Opportunities to take South Africa cricket
holidays abound as the games will be held in top tourist destinations including
Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
The location of the five week tournament was moved to South Africa due to
security concerns in India when the dates coincided with India’s national
elections. This is a bonus for both local sporting enthusiasts and overseas
tourists who can now turn their travels into South Africa cricket holidays.
The IPL tournament, running until 24 May 2009, is just one of many great
sporting events in South Africa over the next few months with the British and
Irish Lions rugby tour and Fifa Confederations Cup tournament this June. These
events will provide South Africa with a huge revenue boost and delight sports
fans and tourists.
