Within days over of announcing the 2010 World Cup Volunteer
Program over 15,000 applications have already been received been received Danny
Jordaan, chief executive of the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee
confirmed. With the majority of applications coming from within South Africa,
thousands of applications have been received from overseas applicants in 133
countries.
The 2010 Fifa World Cup volunteer programme needs 15 000 local, African and
international volunteers to help out with a variety of duties including showing
people to their seats, assisting the media, translating for foreign participants
and visitors, welcoming people at the airport and driving guests around.
Jordaan encouraged potential volunteers to continue with applications for the
volunteer position. Jordaan describes the program as “an excellent way to get
involved in South Africa’s once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of hosting the world's
biggest sporting event”. Clearly football fans agree especially those planning
to combine their South Africa football holidays with some volunteer work to
create a unique Football World Cup experience.
Applications will be accepted online until 31 August 2009 and also at venues of
the nine cities hosting World Cup with interviews for the shortlisted applicants
to be held in January / February 2010.
