Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa,
celebrates what it does best this weekend with the 8th Stellenbosch Wine
Festival. The festival weekend kicks off on 30 July 2009 at the Paul Roos Centre
in Stellenbosch, Western Cape with over 100 wineries showcasing over 500 world
class wines. Last year over 12,500 plus visitors attended the four day event
with more people on Cape Winelands holidays expected this year.
Participants can expect to enjoy tutored wine tastings, ‘meet and greet’
opportunities with winemakers, perfect pairings of wine and the signature dishes
of top Stellenbosch restaurants, live entertainment and activities for kids at
Sunday’s Family day. A combination of history, culture and gastronomical
delights make for a perfect weekend Cape Winelands holiday for South Africans
and international visitors alike.
The festival will support the Mama Afrika Project which works women who look
after abused, abandoned, orphaned and HIV/Aids children through ”a national
social upliftment project which seeks to assist and support communities at
grassroots level in an enabling and empowering manner so that they can help
themselves and those around them”.
