Check into your lodge and relax on this enchanting island in the Quirimbas archipelago, with its 18th century forts, dilapidated colonial villas and crumbling, moss-covered buildings.
Days 5 To 6
Enjoy lazy days exploring historic Ibo Island, which used to be the main Portuguese trading centre in northern Mozambique and where time appears to have stood still.

We suggest starting with a cultural walking tour of the quiet streets of this fascinating island, with its moss-covered buildings. Then take a 20-minute boat ride to sunbathe and swim from an unspoilt sandbar beach and snorkel among dolphins and fish of all descriptions.

Scuba divers can explore shipwrecks and the pristine Mozambique Reef in warm water and fishermen can try their hand at light tackle, fly-fishing or exhilarating deep sea game fishing in waters considered to be the best for marlin in the world. You can also kayak in the mangroves and take Arab dhow rides at sunset.
Day 7
A full day of travel today as you fly to Pemba and transfer 6-hours by road to historic Ilhe de Mozambique, the former capital of colonial Portuguese East Africa.

Travel inland via Metoro and Nampula in northern Mozambique, before heading back to the coast and checking into your lodge near Ilhe de Mozambique. With its rich history and magnificent sandy beaches, this UNESCO World Heritage site is set in spectacular tropical surroundings.
Day 8
Today you will be collected from your hotel and driven 1-hour across mangrove-lined Mossuril Bay to Cabaceira Grande, one of the oldest Portuguese settlements on the Mozambican mainland.

The former summer palace of the Captain General of Mozambique is located here, only a few steps from the shore. This magnificent two-story structure was built in 1765, featuring large rooms, balconies and a magnificent garden. The building is now abandoned and the interior has been stripped of all its materials, but it will give you insight into life here during the colonial era. You can see graves of the Arab community that used to reside here, as well as the old Roman Catholic church. It is also an opportunity to learn more about the Macua people of northern Mozambique.

Afterwards follow the path for 30-minutes to Carrusca Beach to enjoy a packed lunch, followed by time relaxing on the beach, before returning to Ilhe de Mozambique.
Day 9
At leisure to relax at your beach lodge near unspoilt Ilhe de Mozambique.

Enjoy lazy days swimming in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and sunbathing on its golden beaches.
