QPB7C: Accessible Travel - Cape
Town + Garden Route
Day 1
Arrive Cape Town Airport and meet your Cape
Town holiday host, who will transfer you to your luxury
hotel conveniently situated near the Victoria &
Alfred Waterfront.
After a short orientation tour of Cape Town
check in, settle-in and relax in your magnificent
surroundings. Balance of day at leisure.
Day 2
After
a leisurely breakfast, today your host will collect you
for a full day tour of Cape Town. Weather
permitting, we start by ascend Table Mountain by
cable car, to enjoy one of the world’s most famous views
(wheel chair accessible).
Enjoy a tour through the Mother City, viewing sites
of historical and architectural significance, and
continue to beautiful Kirstenbosch Gardens,
renowned for its fynbos and protea.
We complete our day with a visit to Hout Bay,
where we enjoy a short boat trip to view Cape Fur seals
at Seal Island (you will be lifted onto the boat
in your wheelchair).
Day 3
Today your host will collect you for a full day tour
to the beautiful Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
At naval Simonstown we stop at Boulders Beach
to view the resident penguin colony and continue to
Cape Point where we hope to see ostrich, baboons and
perhaps even dolphins or whales in season (August to
November). At Cape Point we take a funicular ride to the
Old Lighthouse (wheelchair accessible), before
returning via spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive..
Day
4
Today we visit the beautiful Stellenbosch
Winelands, travelling via the scenic Franschhoek
Valley where a handful of French Huguenot refugees
started South Africa’s now famous wine industry.
Visit the historic university town of Stellenbosch
including its Period House museum and one Wine Estate
of your choice – sampling as you go! Enjoy a picnic
lunch at a Wine Estate, with a second wine tasting on
the way home!
Day 5
This morning your host will introduce you to the
dramatic and contrasting beauty of South Africa on your
scenic 5-hour drive to the Little Karoo. We start
in the beautiful Cape Winelands and Breede River
Valley, stopping for more Wine Tasting en route.
We continue along spectacular Route 62 and
through Kogmanskloof Pass to your guesthouse in
Calitzdorp for dinner and overnight.
Day 6
This
morning we continue to Oudtshoorn, where we visit
a Wildlife Ranch and an Ostrich Farm, to
view these huge flightless birds in their natural
surroundings.
In the afternoon we continue through the Outeniqua
Pass to George, gateway to the scenic Garden
Route. The road follows a spectacular coastal route
through Wilderness, the Sedgefield Lakes and the
Goukamma Nature Reserve. Check in to your luxury
guesthouse in Knysna or Plettenberg Bay.
Day 7
This
morning we visit Knysna, scenically situated on
the vast Knysna lagoon. This lively town is
famous for its oysters, which are grown in the lagoon.
It also offers good shopping opportunities and many
interesting craft centres in the town.
Spend time shopping or people watching at one of the
sidewalk cafes, and then enjoy a cruise on the Knysna
lagoon (wheel chair accessible).
In the afternoon a special treat awaits – a visit to
an Elephant Park where you will have the
opportunity to feed one of these gentle giants!
We then commence the return journey to Cape Town,
stopping at a guest farm in the Heidelberg area
for dinner and overnight.
Day 8
Provided the farmer is not harvesting, this morning
enjoy an authentic South African farm
experience before continuing through the old town of
Swellendam with its wonderful history and
architecture.
We return to Cape Town via the apple orchards
of Elgin and Sir Lowry’s Pass, a scenic drive of around
3-hours. Return transfer to Cape Town Airport.
