Holidays to Bogota

Nestling on a high plateau in the Andes Mountains, Bogotá is Colombia’s cosmopolitan capital. It’s the vibrant cultural centre of this ethnically rich country and due to its superb libraries and universities it is often called the Athens of South America. At 2,600 metres above sea level Bogata is South America’s third highest capital, after La Paz in Bolivia and Quito in Ecuador. Migrants from Mesoamerica originally settled the area but the city itself was founded in 1537 by the Spanish.

Nowhere is Bogotá’s charm more evident than in La Candelaria, the historic downtown district bursting with museums, churches, restaurants and beautiful colonial buildings. Among its cobbled streets you will find boutique hotels, shops and a thriving nightlife. There are an exceptional number of parks and open spaces too and a great way to explore the city is on a walking or bicycle tour.

ALL OUR BOGOTA HOLIDAYS ARE FINANCIALLY PROTECTED wherever in the world you live. Selling holidays for over 15 years.
You must visit the Jorge Eliecer Gaitan Municipal Theatre, a major venue for a vast cosmopolitan repertoire of music and dance. Another must-see in Bogotá is the Gold Museum. Here you can marvel at 13,000 brilliantly presented gold artefacts from pre-Spanish cultures, from breastplates to brooches. There are also 20,000 fascinating stone and ceramic pieces from the same period. And don’t miss the cable car (teleférico) to Mount Monseratte where you’ll have wonderful views across the city.

The modern face of Colombia is on spectacular view at the Space Museum in the District Planetarium. Watch enthralling video presentations on an 82-foot diameter, domed screen. In contrast, the San Alejo Sunday flea market is home to hundreds of craftsmen restorers and collectors, all showing antiques, crafts, books and curiosities. This is an authentic and fun experience not to be missed on holidays to Bogotá.
