Tayrona Holidays and Caribbean Coast

Northeast of Cartagena lies the Tayrona National Park, an extensive protected area that covers the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The park’s 60 square miles includes 12 miles of Caribbean coast where the waters are home to 2,000 astonishingly varied species of sea life. On land there are over 400 varieties of mammals, birds and reptiles. The picturesque beaches, coves and lagoons have made this one of the most popular parks in Colombia. The park can get very busy in high season so its wise to plan carefully when to visit.

ALL OUR TAYRONA AND CARIBBEAN COAST HOLIDAYS ARE FINANCIALLY PROTECTED wherever in the world you live. Selling holidays for over 15 years.
The area was once the home of the Tayrona tribe. You can visit the ruins of one of their principle settlement at Pueblo, where 500 dwellings have been uncovered. These suggest a pre-Spanish population of 4000, a major urban centre. Their culture and traditions are maintained and displayed in the region by the indigenous peoples today, including their direct descendants, the Koguis.

Nearby is the coastal city of Santa Marta, the oldest surviving city in South America. While the city is trying hard to re-establish its former charm, it may best be seen as an excellent base for exploring the park’s magnificent bio-diversity and some of South America’s loveliest coastline.
