It is famous because this is where Queen Elizabeth learned that her father had died and she was to become queen. The cosy guest rooms are compact and simply decorated, with en-suite showers. Ithumba is a small rustic self-catering tented camp situated above the Galana River, in the eastern sector of Tsavo National Park. It is owned by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust & reserved for foster parent donors, who can visit the nearby Ithumba Elephant Orphanage release station to see the youngsters being fed each morning & evening and enjoying their midday mud bath. Each tent has an en-suite shower with toiletries & there is a large thatched lounge, dining & kitchen area. Solar energy is used throughout the camp, so hairdryers cannot be used. There is no air conditioning. The lodge can only be booked on an exclusive use basis, with a cook provided. You need to bring all your own food supplies.
