Cordoba & Mendoza

Cordoba is Argentina’s second largest city, with an arts and culture heritage to match. The art museum in the Ferreyra Palace is dedicated to Eva Peron, while the beautiful World Heritage Site ‘Jesuit Block’ or Manzana Jeduitica, houses the University of Cordoba. The city brilliantly combines the old and the new - their colonial history and modern economic growth. The largest park in the city, El Parque Sarmiento, offers gardens, a lake, eateries, a Greek theatre and a zoo! There are numerous 17th century Jesuit ruins and churches and the city is ideal for a guided walk or you can tour the city on a British double decker bus.

Situated at the geographical centre of Argentina, Cordoba was the country’s first capital. With its four individually themed municipal art galleries, and dozens of museums, it justifies its appointment as The Cultural Capital of the Americas.

In contrast, Mendoza is dedicated to wine, with the Malbec grape the pick of the crop. This is a laid back, cosmopolitan city with a great restaurant and cafe nightlife and wine bars - and wine tours - are plentiful. Although this is essentially a desert location, irrigation ditches run everywhere and ensure an abundant supply of water for the fabulous fountains throughout the city. General San Martin, who liberated Argentina from the Spaniards lived here and his name is affectionately commemorated everywhere.

The Andes are close by and the city is a prime jumping off point for skiing, rafting and other trips for the more adventurous.
