When to go to Zambia

Zambia has a hot sub-tropical climate, with good rainfall.

The cooler months from May to October are regarded as the best time to view wildlife, as the bushveld is dry and animals come to the rivers to drink. In October, thousands of carmine bee-eaters nest on the banks of the Luangwa River.

Victoria Falls has the greatest water flow from February to June, following the summer rains. The Zambian side of the falls dries up in October and November, when you need to cross to the Zimbabwean side for better views.

The rainy summer season runs from November to March, when many parks are closed.
