Peru Holidays

Peru is one of the most diverse, must-see countries in South America, if not the world. Home to the amazing citadel at Machu Picchu, with its fabulous Inca legacy, here you will also find towering Andean peaks, fabulous Spanish colonial cities and the luxuriant rainforests of the Amazon.

Many of the most famous Peruvian sites are found in and around the charming Inca capital of Cusco, with its fascinating fusion of Incan and Spanish cultures. See the outstanding Inca building and stone work, once covered with solid gold, and the magnificent Spanish cathedral which took 100 years to complete. Here too you can explore the way of life and artefacts of the many pre-Inca tribes, going back for thousands of years.

Offering an outstanding range of travel experiences and some of the world’s most iconic sites, Peru is one of the world's most memorable destinations. To talk with one of our consultants who has first hand experience of Peru holidays, ring us on 01582 766122 or use our enquiry form to contact us with your initial thoughts.

ALL OUR Peru HOLIDAYS ARE FINANCIALLY PROTECTED wherever in the world you live. Selling holidays for over 15 years.

On holidays to Peru you can explore unforgettable landscapes and thousands of years of history in this beautiful and ancient country, from the pre-Incan Quechuan culture to the colonial heritage of the Spanish.

North of Cusco is the Sacred Valley, the spiritual and agricultural heartland of the Incas. The great ruins here are breathtaking, as are the terraces built to provide precious farmland in this extraordinary land of mountains and forests. Your holiday in Peru cannot be complete without visiting one of the most famous ruins in the world at the head of the valley – the fabulous citadel of Machu Picchu – rediscovered by the American explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911. This enormous, stunning monument to Inca spiritual and community tradition and incredible building skill is a modern wonder of the world. You can take the train to Machu Picchu on Peru holidays, or walk to it along the famous Inca Trail.

Another of the world’s most famous tourist attractions, Lake Titicaca, lies to the south on the border with Bolivia. The lake was sacred to the Incas, who believed that the world was created here. Base yourself at Puno on the lakeside and visit the amazing Uros floating islands made entirely of reeds, where the indigenous community has lived for centuries.

Not far away is Arequipa, one of the loveliest cities in South America and where the old town centre is a World Heritage Site. Much of the architecture is Spanish but the famous cuisine and the three majestic volcanoes which flank the town are very much Peruvian. This is a busy, prosperous and vibrant town which you really will enjoy on holidays to Peru.

It is the jumping off point (not literally!) for the spectacular Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the world. Here you can watch the endangered Andean Condor soar and have fun relaxing in the natural hot, sometimes very hot springs.

Arequipa is Peru’s second largest town but it is only a tenth the size of Lima. The third largest city in South America, Lima is the capital of Peru and has something for everyone. It is busy and sophisticated, with world class food and a superb art and cultural scene. A vibrant night life mixes easily with solemn religious beliefs and ceremonies, and a well developed Pacific beachfront with all you need for a brilliant Peru holiday.

Lima lies at the northern end of the South Coast, with an amazing 800 miles of desert and marine wildlife, including the Ballestas Islands in the Bay of Paracus which is a marine reserve. On Peru holidays to this region you can also see one of the world’s greatest archaeological mysteries, the famous Nazca Lines that are visible only from the air. The South Coast runs all the way to Chile, with terrific ruins and resorts all along the way.

This is the land of the Incas and on Peru holidays you will see fantastic tombs, fortresses and pyramids. Near the Pacific resort of Trujillo, you can see a city made of mud.

In total contrast the eastern part of Peru is part of Amazonia, which means that it is covered in teeming tropical rain forest. This area represents 60% of the country and boasts some of the most diverse plant and animal life on the planet. The main gateway to this region is Puerto Maldonado in the southeast, where beautiful resorts are hidden deep in the jungle with the only access by boat. On holidays to Peru, just getting there is an adventure. In the northeast Amazon, Iquitos is the largest city in the world which cannot be reached by road and is a bird watchers delight, with 1,600 recorded species. The vast Amazon basin is an absolute must-see on any Peru holidays.

All over Peru you will find llama, the country’s traditional beast of burden, and its bigger brother the vicuna. Also the alpaca, bred for its famous super-soft wool and delicious meat, both of which you can sample wherever you go. Both have sustained the Peruvian people for millennia. Look out too for their silver, which is the purest and most affordable in the world, crafted into stunning traditional designs.

Market days in Peru are colourful affairs. The distinctive hand-woven cloths of Chinchero have become a symbol of South American culture, making wonderful gifts or mementos of a holiday in Peru.

Novo-Andean cuisine is delicious and takes its inspiration from local ingredients such as quinoa. If you are feeling adventurous, guinea pig is a regional speciality. Also available anywhere in Peru is their national drink, Pisco Sour, a cocktail reputedly invented in Lima. There is ongoing competition with Chile as to the ownership of Pisco, the basic liquor and the recipes are slightly different. It is delicious and potent, so be sure to try it while you are here!

Peru holidays offer a beautiful, spectacular and varied country, which has another ace up its sleeve: the warm and gentle people. They smile a lot here, so join them and you will be assured of a relaxed and happy experience of a lifetime.
