Lima is the main entrance point to Peru and is a pleasant coastal city to explore for a night or two. There are some interesting museums to visit such as the Gold Museum and some exceptional restaurants. Lima has excellent fresh fish and seafood.
Miraflores and San Isidro are the traditional areas to stay in Lima but Miraflores normally prevails due to its sea views and El Malecón, a six-mile stretch of parks along the cliff tops of the Pacific Ocean. The increasingly trendy neighbouring district of Barranca is becoming more popular and has a bohemian feel but is further from the airport.
To visit the Nazca Lines you can be based in Lima and either travel by bus or plane, heading south. These mystifying Nazca Lines are ancient geoglyphs and are best seen from the air where it is easier to pick out the patterns that include geometric shapes, spiders, fish, lamas, monkeys and a hummingbird. Now a World Heritage Site, the geoglyphs are thought to have been created between 400-600 AD by the local Nazca culture.
