When to go to Ecuador

Ecuador & the Galapagos are situated on the equator so can be visited all year round.

Quito and the Andean Highlands have a high altitude mountain climate, with changeable weather and cold nights. The best time to visit the mainland is during the dry season from July to December, with clear blue skies and warm sunshine. This is also the best time to visit neighbouring Peru.

January to June are the cooler and wetter months, with brief afternoon showers, but many people choose to travel to Ecuador then as this is when the waters around the Galapagos Islands are at their warmest and calmest.

For Galapagos divers, the Manta season runs from December to May, and Whale Shark season from June to November.

The Amazon rainforests are wet and humid all year round. If taking a river cruise, the high water season is from December to May and the low water season is from June to November.
