Ecuador is situated on the equator so can be visited all year round.
Quito and the Andean Highlands have a high altitude mountain climate, with changeable weather and cold nights. The best time to visit the mainland is from June to December, which are the driest and warmest months, with clear blue skies and warm sunshine. This is also the best time to visit neighbouring Peru.
January to May are the cooler wetter months, with afternoon showers, but many people choose to travel to Ecuador then as this is when the waters around the Galapagos Islands are at their warmest and calmest. The seas are a little rougher from June to September.
The Amazon rainforests are wet and humid all year round. If taking a river cruise, the high water season is from December to May and the low water season is from June to November.
