Accommodation Styles
Most of our destinations offer
visitors a broad choice of
accommodation styles, ranging
from fine hotels to secluded
safari lodges located deep in
the bush. Sometimes a rest
camp in a national park may
be the best option. At other
times a delightful ownerrun
guesthouse fits the
bill. For a special treat, laidback
houseboats and river
cruises or luxury trains can
be incorporated into many
itineraries. Our style guide
aims to give you an idea of
what to expect at each of the
main types of accommodation we offer
Shamwari
Safari Lodges
Africa’s safari lodges are legendary. Some are handsome
permanent structures and others are tented with canvas walls
that allow you to feel closer to the sounds and smells of the
bush. Many lodges recreate the elegant colonial feel of a
bygone era with four-poster beds and Persian rugs. Some of the
permanent lodges showcase the very latest in contemporary
design, whilst others have a more traditional rustic feel, with big
communal dining areas.
Governors' Il Moran
Safari Camps
Usually small and tented, safari camps are a good way to explore
true wilderness areas. This is Africa in the raw, but the experience
is unique and you may be the only people for miles. Game
viewing is highly personal with superb guiding. Typically, tented
rooms have comfortable beds with mattresses and en suite
facilities with hot water. Chefs prepare extraordinarily delicious
meals, often served in a mess tent. Walking safaris use more
basic bush camps, often with outdoor bucket showers.

Luxury Hotels
Across Africa, Latin America and India, an outstanding selection
of luxury 4- and 5-star hotels can be found, from traditional to
ultra-modern. We favour those properties with a strong regional
flavour that also offer a range of amenities and activities.
Wherever you stay across our portfolio of properties, you can
expect the highest standards of service. Many of our clients
enjoy a mix of accommodation styles and choose to spend a few
nights experiencing sheer luxury at a key point on their trip.
Three Boutique
Boutique and Heritage Hotels
Boutique hotels are typically smaller than conventional hotels
and aim to give guests a more personal service in a warm and
welcoming setting. They are often one-off properties or part
of a small collection and there may be anything from a handful
of rooms up to about 50. In India, these are often heritage
properties that were former palaces, forts or colonial estates.
The styling is usually highly individual. Many will include dining
options and offer facilities such as a pool, bar and Wi-Fi.
De Zeekoe
Guest Houses
Guest houses are often owner-managed, full of character and
give visitors a genuine home-from-home experience. While
you are frequently treated as one of the family, guest houses
are professionally run and many have good facilities such as
a swimming pool, bar and restaurant. Guest houses offer
tremendous value and are often located in scenic, off-thebeaten-
track locations. Staff are usually willing to give you
local tips that will enhance your enjoyment of the area.
Kruger Rest Camp
Rest Camps
South Africa’s and Namibia’s rest camps are renowned and
while they vary in size, some have shops, restaurants, swimming
pools and even Internet facilities. Accommodation is clean but
relatively basic although most do offer air-conditioning. They are
an economic option if you are self-driving and are convenient,
as you are already in the park before the gates open. Many
rest camps offer guided game drives that help you to orientate
yourself before exploring under your own steam.
