Colombia Holidays

With its captivating mix of stunning Andean landscapes, charming colonial cities, pristine Caribbean beaches and fertile rolling hills, it’s not hard to understand Colombia’s attraction.

Heralded as Latin American’s hottest rising star, Colombia holidays offer one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world. From tropical Amazonian rainforests and grasslands to coral reefs and semi-arid deserts, its scenic landscapes are rich in flora and fauna. Dominated by the magnificent Andes mountain range, Colombia was colonised by the Spanish in 1499 who dubbed it the New Granada. The capital’s location high in the Andes is breath-taking and sets the tone for holidays to Colombia - a spectacularly beautiful country.

Bogota is a cultural revelation, with its astonishing Gold Museum and the superbly preserved downtown area, La Candelaria. Here you can revel in the fascinating mix of old colonial and modern attractions. Outside the city, visit the remarkable Salt Cathedral carved out from a former salt mine at Zipaquira and don’t miss Villa de Leyva, one of Colombia’s most picturesque colonial villages.

However, the jewel in Colombia’s crown is undoubtedly its most famous World Heritage Site - the superbly preserved Caribbean coastal city of Cartagena.  This magnificent walled city was built in the 15th century to withstand the attentions of pirates and privateer. The mix of old and new is stunning here, with cobbled alleys, balconies, bougainvillea and huge churches contrasting with modern hotels.

The Coffee Region around Pereira; the second city of Medellin; the amazing archaelogical site at San Agustín; and the wildlife and culture of the vast Amazon Basin are other prime attractions on holidays to Colombia.

ALL OUR COLOMBIA HOLIDAYS ARE FINANCIALLY PROTECTED wherever in the world you live. Selling holidays for over 15 years.

In Bogota, for spectacular views of the city take the cable car to the summit of Monserrate, at a height of 3,152 metres, or walk up if you are feeling energetic. And if adrenalin sports are your thing, head north to San Gil and the Rio Fonce, Colombia’s white-water rafting capital. Here you can also horse ride, fish and hike.

Bogota is more than matched for attractions by the beautiful Caribbean coastal city of Cartagena. After exploring this magnificent city, you can find all types of beach and water activities nearby, including scuba diving and snorkelling in the Rosario Islands with the finest fish restaurants on offer and exceptional coral & sea life. If its water sports and lots of activities you want, head for one of the many luxury hotels on the Barra Peninsula. If you have a higher budget, head for Colombia’s secluded Caribbean archipelago of San Bernardo for first class diving and snorkelling, as well as entrancing easy-going Latin vibe.  It is with good reason that Cartagena is regularly the first destination on the ‘team sheet’ when planning Colombia holidays.

Nowhere can the country’s impressive bio diversity be seen better than in the thick tropical vegetation of Tayrona National Park, set on the Caribbean Coast to the east of Cartagena. One of Colombia’s most visited national parks, the verdant hills provide a spectacular backdrop to the pristine upspoilt white sandy beaches, although swimming in the sea here is limited by strong currents.

Colombian coffee is legendary and spending a few days at a secluded finca in the tranquil rolling hills of the Coffee Region, centred on Pereira, is a popular option on Colombia holidays. This region is also home to the country’s national plant, the rare and intriguing Wax Palm.

If time permits, to the north of the region, Medellin, Colombia’s second city is now very much on the tourist map. With its unique blend of art, tango and cable car network it has become a model of regeneration and was recently voted the world’s most innovative city. You can go quad biking in the nearby mountains or travel to the unspoilt coast to experience the idyllic off-the-beaten-track beaches of the Nuqui region. With a rainforest backdrop, from June to October this is the place to spot migrating humpback whales.

Southwest of Bogota, Colombia’s most impressive archeological sites are found near San Agustín and Isnos. Hundreds of pre-Columbian megalithic sculptures can be seen in the Parque Arqueologico. Dating from a civilization that lasted from 200 BC to 1300 AD, these stone tomb guardians have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, well worth a visit on holidays to Colombia.

In contrast to its lively cities, almost a third of Colombia is covered by largely unexplored Amazon rainforest, reached only by plane and boat. Located in the southeast of the country, Leticia is the gateway town for river trips deep into the wildlife-rich Amazon Basin and to Tres Fronteras, where Colombia, Peru and Brazil meet. This is a paradise for birders and those seeking an authentic cultural experience on holidays to Colombia.
