Panama holidays - view of modern Panama City

Panama Holidays

Positioned at the crossroads of the Americas, Panama holidays offer visitors an exciting mix of urban buzz, incredible engineering achievements, pristine rainforests and stunning island beaches. Not to forget the western half of the country, which is dominated by verdant alpine mountains.

Having shaken off years of occupation, Panama is the safest country in the region with excellent infrastructure and the ease of having the US dollar as its currency. Wherever you choose to visit in this surprisingly scenic country, most Panama holidays are likely to begin in Panama City, a dynamic centre of culture and commerce for the whole Central American region.

Here, the evocative remains of Spanish colonialism and pirate raids blend seamlessly with American-style modern city life and well-preserved national parks on the city fringes. Nearby, the Museum of Biodiversity, designed by well-known architect Frank Gehry, tell the story of the isthmus, and is his only work in Latin America.

The Panama Canal changed world shipping and international trade forever and is a must-see, even if you aren’t a transportation buff. You can take a boat trip for its entire length, see it from the train that runs from one ocean to another or visit the indigenous Embera people in the adjacent rainforest by motorised canoe. Exploring the magnificent, modern shipping locks at one end and preserved Spanish forts at the other are contrasting but equally fascinating experiences. At Portobelo on the Caribbean coast you can wander among the ruins of five Spanish forts, built when the town was at the centre of the colonial trade in treasure seized from the Incas.

ALL OUR PANAMA HOLIDAYS ARE FINANCIALLY PROTECTED wherever in the world you live. Selling holidays for over 15 years.

In complete contrast, the Chiriqui Highlands in the west of the country are formed of mountains draped in thick rainforest. This is the land of volcanic peaks, orchids, cattle and coffee where, they say, it is always spring. You can explore this scenic region from David, the local capital, or better still from the charming alpine town of Boquete.

Try any number of outdoor activities on your holiday in Panama, from kayaking to canopy zip-lining and white-water rafting. Or simply walk and take in the astonishing richness of the animal, bird and plant life. Coupled with the marine reserve in the Gulf of Chiriqui, this is a magnificent eco-diverse location that is ideal for those who love the outdoors.

If a relaxed Caribbean vibe is what you are looking for, go no further than the beaches of Bocas del Toro. This is an island province and the capital, Bocas Town, is located on the popular Isla Colon. The region also boasts two national parks, so you are never far from the country’s wildlife or exquisite beaches and water sports. There is great scuba diving here too.

Less than two hours from Panama City on the Pacific coast there are good beaches such as Santa Clara. Some of the best weather in Panama is found further west on the Azuero Peninsula, the traditional heart of Panama, and both the colonial and indigenous cultures are well preserved here. Surfing and sport fishing are two of the top coastal activities with the towns of Chitre, Las Tablas and Pedasi providing local charm.

For a quieter time, head for one of the un-crowded beaches or the many natural reserves. Panama holidays can also include some excellent whale watching and the Pacific coast is the place to go between July and October.

Choose the San Blas Islands on the Caribbean Coast for the ultimate in tropical tranquility, where the indigenous Kuna Yala people administer the region. There are hundreds of small, unspoiled islands in Panama and these are among the very best. Experiencing the Kuna’s distinctive culture and independent way of life is an enriching and highly enjoyable added bonus.
