Our Kenya African safari train tours start in Nairobi, with a visit to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphange and the Giraffe Centre. Then board the modern Madaraka Express train (first class) to Voi and disemark at Salt Lick safari lodge in Taita Hills, adjacent to Tsavo National Park. Afterwards continue by train to the coast and relax on a gorgeous Mombasa beach. All transfers, train tickets & park fees included.

Day 1
You will be met at Nairobi Airport and transferred to your hotel in this bustling city.

Check in and relax in your warm and friendly African surroundings.
Day 2
This morning we visit the Giraffe Centre. Founded by Betty & Jock Leslie-Melville to save the endangered Rothschild Giraffe from extinction, this centre plays an important role in educating Kenyan school children on the country's wildlife and environment. It also allows visitors to come into close contact with the world's tallest species, including the opportunity to feed a gorgeous giraffe.

We then visit the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage (open only from 11 to 12 noon). It took Daphne Sheldrick 28 years of trial and error to perfect the milk formula and complex husbandry required to rear orphaned African elephants, during the period that her husband was warden of Kenya's largest elephant sanctuary in Tsavo East National Park. Since then this sanctuary has gone on to save the lives of many orphaned elephant calves.

Afterwards enjoy a game drive in Nairobi National Park. This was the first national park created in Kenya and, despite its relatively small size and close proximity to the skyscrapers of the city, it boasts a large and varied wildlife population. Animals migrate to this park during the dry season, as it offers them a permanent source of water. You can hope to see lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino - but not elephant as the park is not large enough to sustain them. You can also see giraffe, zebra, eland, impala, Grant's gazelle, Thomson's gazelle, warthog and ostrich in the woodlands and open plains, and hippo in the Mbagathi Athi River which is lined with fever and acacia trees. The park also has a very successful rhino sanctuary. A picnic lunch is included today.

Note: Visits to Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage can only be booked 90 days in advance and are subject to availability (maximum 100 visitors per day).
Day 3
This morning transfer to Nairobi Railway Station in good time to board the Madaraka Express train (first class) departing at 08.20 and travelling 4-hours towards Mombasa.

On arrival at Voi Station you will be met and transferred to your safari lodge in Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private conservancy situated between Tsavo West and Tsavo East national parks.

We arrive at our lodge in time for lunch, followed by a visit to the inhouse Artefacts Museum that houses articles from World War 1. Here you will gain an insight into the Taita-Taveta region’s role in this great war. Later enjoy an afternoon game drive in this sanctuary, with the rest of the day at leisure to experience game viewing from the lodge balcony or underground hide.

Note: Train tickets can only be booked 60 days in advance and will be handed to you on your arrival in Kenya. Luggage on the train is limited to 30 kg. Alcohol cannot be brought on the train or any potentially flammable aerosols (eg deodorants, hairspray or sunscreen).
Day 4
Today is devoted to game viewing in Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.

As there are no fences restricting their movement, wildlife roams free between the vast Tsavo East and Tsavo West conservation areas, which together form the largest national park in Kenya at over 7,000 square miles (11,747 square kilometers). These parks are named after the Tsavo River, which flows through them. With grasslands, savanna and swamps, Tsavo West is more mountainous and wetter than Tsavo East, which has more open terrain but equally diverse wildlife and birds.

Each day enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives, with the rest of the day free to enjoy game viewing from your lodge.
Day 5
Enjoy a final early morning game drive in Taita Hills before transferring to Voi Station in good time to catch the Madaraka Express train (First Class) travelling for 2-hours to Mombasa.

On arrival you will be met at Mombasa Railway Station and transferred 2-hours by road and local ferry to Diani Beach on the south coast. Check into your hotel situated on the shores of the sparkling Indian Ocean and relax in your warm tropical surroundings.

Days 6 To 10
At leisure to relax and soak up the sun on warm Diani Beach.

Enjoy the lush tropical gardens of coconut trees, fan-shaped travellers palms and the vibrant blooms of hibiscus, bougainvilleas and frangipani - as well the splendid coastline. Various watersports are available, as well as many optional activities such as a snorkelling trip to Kisite Marine Park and Wasini Island, Mombasa city tour, scuba diving, deep sea fishing and golf.

Note: Please be aware that there will be hawkers on the beach, trying to sell you excursions and trinkets. Don't be taken in by them and simply say 'No' very firmly. They are not allowed in the grounds of  your hotel.
Day 11
Transfer 2-hours by road and local ferry to Mombasa Airport for your flight home.

Note: All inclusive programmes stop after check-out at 10 am, so you will need to pay for any food or drink consumed after this time.
