Enjoy swimming, snorkelling and kayaking today in the warm clears waters of fascinating Bird Island, the northernmost inhabited island in the beautiful Seychelles Archipelago.
This pristine coral island is known for its wildlife and birds - including the endangered fairy tern, brown noddie, lesser noddie, common noddie, white tern, white-tailed tropicbird, the bright red Madagascar fody and the Seychelles blue pigeon. These turquoise waters are home to abundant marine life including the Green sea turtle and Hawksbill sea turtle, which nest on these beaches from November to January. You can also see geckos, skinks (a type of lizard), ghost crabs, hermit crabs, true land crabs and Giant tortoises which roam free on the island.
The island is also home to an enormous breeding colony of over a million sooty terns, which arrive from June to early October each year to nest and lay their eggs. If visiting during this period, you can rise at 6 am and accompany wildlife staff to the colony.
