Day 1
You will be met at Dar Es Salaam Airport and transferred to your hotel.

Check in, settle in and relax in your warm East African surroundings.
Days 2 To 3
Today enjoy early morning and late afternoon shared game viewing in the vast and little visited Nyerere National Park.

Originally named after the famous hunter and early conservationist, Frederick Courtney Selous, this great game reserve covers an area of over 21,000 square miles (54,000 square km) - making it larger than Switzerland and four times the size of the Serengeti.

As a result, many game species can be found here in greater numbers than in any other game park in Africa - including over 70% of Tanzania's elephants. Hippo, buffalo and crocodiles are abundant and lion, hyena, wild dog and rhino can also be seen. Also gnu, hartebeest, kudu, sable, eland, reedbuck, bushbuck, waterbuck, warthog, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, leopard and cheetah. There are over 350 different bird species too, including the bataleur eagle, and walking safaris are permitted.

Note: Please be prepared for some rough roads.
Day 4
After some early morning game viewing, transfer to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Dar Es Salaam and onward flight to Mafia Island.

Check into your lodge on this unspoilt Swahili island that is part of the spectacular Zanzibar archipelago.
Days 5 To 10
At leisure to relax and enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving off unspoilt Mafia Island, one of the smaller islands in the Zanzibar archipelago and visited by very few tourists.

Once an important centre of the ancient Swahili civilization, Mafia Island flourished through trade across the Indian Ocean, resulting in a blend of African, Arabian and Persian influences. Traditional Swahili culture still thrives here today.

Mafia Island Marine Park lies off the mouth of the Rufiji River and has spectacular beaches, bays, lagoons, sandbars, coral reefs and marine life. Both diving and snorkelling are outstanding in this remote and undeveloped part of the Swahili Coast.

From August to mid November you can watch migrating humpback whales in Chole Bay, and from October to February you can hope to swim with whale sharks offshore from Kilindoni Harbour (with November and December offering the best opportunities).

Note: Dive packages vary by lodge, so enquire at the time of booking. The best time for diving is from November to February, as that is when visibility is at its best.
Day 11
Transfer to Mafia Island Airport for your light aircraft flight to Dar Es Salaam.

You will be met at Dar Es Salaam domestic terminal and transferred to the international terminal for your flight home.
