Our tailor-made Comrades Marathon, South Africa accommodation packages include a choice of Pietermaritzburg & Durban hotels as well as race day transfers. Afterwards enjoy a thrilling Big Five safari in a malaria free game reserve, before relaxing on the warm Durban North Coast. All transfers, park fees & game drives are included, but you must enter the race yourself.

Days 1 To 2
You will be met at Durban Airport and transferred 1.5-hours to the old British colonial capital of Pietermaritzburg in the beautiful Natal Midlands.
 
Check into your hotel and relax under warm blue South African skies.
Day 3
Today you will be transferred in to Pietetrmaritzburg register for the Comrades Marathon – which at 55.9 miles (90 km) is one of the world’s premier ultra-marathons renowned for its test of human endurance and the comradeship it engenders between runners.
 
Your driver will assist you in collecting your race number and discuss any logistical support you have arranged on race day.
Day 4
Rise early for your transfer to Pietermaritzburg City Hall before the cock crows for the 05.30 starting gun. Feel the excitement and trepidation of your fellow runners, as you taking on one of the greatest ultra-marathon challenges in the world – running from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
 
This historic race, which is renowned as much for its comradeship as for its extreme physical challenge, is run from “gun-to-gun” – with a 12-hour “drop-dead” cut-off at 17.30. Those not meeting intermediate cut-off stages will be obliged to board the rescue bus. The “Big Five” hills you will need to conquer on the down run are Polly Shorts, Inchanga, Bothas Hill, Fields Hill and Cowies Hill. Your driver will provide your pre- and post-race transfers, as well as any other logistical support you may require.
 
Throughout the race, friendly crowds will be lining the streets cheering you on, and willing you to the finish line in Durban. Whether you win gold, silver or bronze – this will be a race you will remember for a lifetime.
 
Afterwards you will be transferred to your hotel on the Durban North Coast.

Days 5 To 7
At leisure to relax on the warm golden beaches of the Durban North Coast.
 
Many optional activities are available such as a marine cruise to search for dolphins, turtles, sharks, whales (in season) and other fascinating sea life. Championship golf, horse riding and deep sea game fishing are also available.
Day 8
This morning enjoy the beauty of rural Zululand, renowned for its outstanding beaches, mountains and wildlife as you transfer 3-hours to Hluhluwe National Park.
  
After checking into your lodge, in the afternoon enjoy a thrilling open top game drive with a lodge ranger. Game viewing opportunities should present themselves almost immediately and hopefully you will see several species of antelope, zebra, wildebeest and maybe even giraffe - as well as several of the Big Five before dinner.
Days 9 To 10
Today enjoy game viewing by shared open-top vehicle in Hluhluwe National Park.
 
One of South Africa’s most beautiful game parks, Hluhluwe is home to all the Big 5 - lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino - as well as the subcontinent’s largest population of endangered rhino, which this park saved from extinction. Hope to see many other interesting species too including giraffe, hippo, kudu, crocodile, waterbuck, warthog and baboon. With over 300 different bird species, outstanding bird watching is also guaranteed.
  
After a beautiful African sunset, enjoy the balmy evening and pristine stars of the southern hemisphere.
  
Note: children < 6 are not allowed on open top game drives.
Day 11
Transfer 4-hours to Durban Airport for your flight home.
 
Note: An extra hour of transfer time is allowed, in case wildlife slows down your progress through the park.
