At leisure to relax at your resort or on a quiet white sandy beach on Cozumel - Mexico's largest Caribbean island, which is only 30-miles long and 10-miles wide (48 km x 16 km).
The azure blue waters of Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park surround the island, with the Cozumel Reef forming part of the Great Mayan Reef (Mesoamerican Barrier Reef) that stretches from the tip of the Yucatán Peninsula to the islands off the coast of Honduras, making it the second largest coral reef in the world. Hundreds of species of fish and many endangered and protected marine animals are found here – including loggerhead, leatherback, green, hawksbill and Olive Ridley sea turtles, and West Indian manatees – making this a paradise for snorkelling and diving. It is possible to swim with whale sharks from June to September.
Deep sea fishing can be arranged from the harbour with barracuda, mahi mahi and trigger fish being particularly plentiful. You can catch tuna all year round and white and blue marlin and sailfish from March to July.
Many other optional activities are on offer including daily catamaran cruises with snorkelling, 'helmet-diving', underwater submarine rides and jeep tours of the island. You can visit the 2,500-acre Punta Sur Ecological Park and Celerain Lighthouse in the south, where you can snorkel off the island's most beautiful beach and see tropical birds, crocodiles, sea turtles and exotic flowers. You can also visit Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park, the San Gervasio ruins, Cozumel Pearl Farm and the Mayan Cacao Company. The capital of the island, San Miguel, is a cruise port so can be very busy during the day, but in the evening you can stroll along the promende and enjoy a spectacular sunset.
